INTRODUCING: The Everyday Canvas Shirt

A new addition to the Dave's New York Workwear lineup is our Everyday Canvas Shirt. We built this shirt to be an update to the classic canvas work shirt. We want it to be comfortable enough to wear every day, but durable enough to wear it for years to come. Here we will break down some of the features of our new shirt. We hope that it will be your new favorite work shirt!

Fabric
The shirt itself is made of 9-ounce cotton canvas with a little bit of flex to it. The breakdown is 97% ringspun cotton with 3% flex. We thought it was important to have a little bit of stretch in the shirt so that when you move your arms, the shirt can move with you. However, we ultimately want it to feel like an original canvas shirt, so it has a bit of rougher hand to it. The heavier feel also gives it more weight than just about any other work shirt out there. It has a self-fabric collar (i.e. it uses the same material the shirt is made out of), but we built some structure into the collar so that it would look great wear after wear.

Features
Besides the aforementioned collar with structure, we also wanted to give this shirt a calm and understated design. We used dyed-to-match buttons for a tonal look. The two chest pockets feature a flap closure and are designed  largefor carrying important items, but not so big that it overwhelms. The stitching was also done with a tonal thread to keep the design classic. The front placket was "turned in" so that the shirt is also clean down the front. We also didn't want any outward branding (shocking, right!?!) so we kept a small Dave's New York tab on the inside of the front placket.

The only little design hint we gave was on the cuff where we used platinum colored thread for the button-hole. This is a nod to the platinum bar tacks we use on the pockets of our pants. We wanted to add a touch of class, so on the inside of the shirt you will see nylon covering the inside stitches for a smooth feel if you wear this as a shirt or a layer. All of this essentially gives you a canvas work shirt that looks good with any style you prefer to wear.

Fit
Since this is a workwear garment, we gave it a little bit of room. The shirt is heavy and isn't meant to be tucked in. It can to be worn as an outer layer in the cooler temps or a mid-layer under a work jacket in the winter.  We also gave it some room under the arms so that it is not restricting.

Ultimately we want you to wear the shirt how you want to style it. If you want it more fitted, you can wear your normal size or one size down. However, if you want it to be an outer layer or oversized, then you can wear your normal size with buttons open or go one size up. Either way it will look great and become a staple in your closet.
